12/05/2005

Beijing and Paris, April 7, 2005 – 6WIND, a pioneer in advanced IP networking software technologies, announced today, the successful conclusion of a partnership agreement with China Academy of Science – Institute of Acoustics (CAS-IOA), one of China’s foremost institute for leading research in such domains as high performance networking communications.

The R&D partnership, which unites 6WIND’s IP-agnostic expertise and networking software with the experience and development skills of CAS-IOA’s IPv6 competence team and PhD researchers, seals the commitment of 6WIND to strengthen relations and support with Chinese partners and industry players in the country’s bid to implement China’s New Generation Internet (CNGI).

“The CNGI project, once fully deployed, will be the largest IPv6 network in the world, showcasing China’s leadership in the New Internet communications and services. CAS-IOA is very proud to be involved in this historical implementation. With 6WIND’s close cooperation and networking software intelligence in IP networking, we aim to develop avant-garde user applications that will contribute to China’s position as a net-centric communications powerhouse of the 21st century,” said Professor Hou Zhiqiang, third president of CAS-IOA and Chief Scientist of China Netcom, also popularly known as the father of China broadband IP technology.

“6WIND is honoured to be a development partner of CAS-IOA in achieving this important milestone for China’s ambitious and maturing ICT industry. The collaboration will not only facilitate knowledge exchange and technology transfer for both sides, but also accelerate the industrialization and commercialization of home-grown IP-centric Chinese products and services over the coming years,” said Patrick Cocquet, chairman and co-founder of 6WIND.

Cocquet, who is also President of the IPv6 Task Force France, Vice Chairman of the China IPv6 Council and member of the French Government’s ICT Strategic Advisory Board, added that the collaboration reinforces and exemplifies cooperation in a key ICT domain where important bi-lateral relations between China and France is being encouraged at the highest level to benefit both countries’ competitive standing. 6WIND has been actively involved in China’s plan to deploy the new internet as a member of 6TNet’s steering committee, the trial project of CNGI, and has provided its IP-agnostic technology for several reference networks. The company has since established a sales and support office in Beijing.

CNGI, launched and funded by the Chinese government in November 2003, will also cover research and development for ubiquitous multi-media applications that include mobility, video-on-demand, remote education, security surveillance, home networking, intelligent traffic control, disaster analysis, medical applications, smart transportation systems, location-based services or sensor networking.
