Maurice Petitou, Head of Preclinical Research & Development at Endotis Pharma, wins the Charles Mentzer Prize for his discoveries on synthetic oligosaccharides in thrombosis

Parc Biocitech, Paris (France), July 9th, 2009 - Endotis Pharma, a specialty biopharmaceutical company specialized in the discovery and development of synthetic oligosaccharides (« small-glyco drugs »)  for applications in the fields of thrombosis and cancer, today announced that Maurice Petitou PhD (the company's Head of Preclinical Research & Development) was awarded the Charles Mentzer Prize on July 3rd, 2009, for his work on heparin-derived antithrombotics. On this occasion Maurice Petitou presented his research work at the 45th International Medicinal Chemistry Meeting in Orleans, France.

The Charles Mentzer Prize is awarded every two years by the French Society of Medicinal Chemistry.

"It’s a great honor to be awarded by my peers the Charles Mentzer Prize, for my research on heparin-derived antithrombotics. I have devoted my career to the treatment of cardiovascular diseases that affect 300,000 people in France every year", stated Maurice Petitou.

Maurice Petitou joined Endotis Pharma as Head of Preclinical Research & Development in 2005, after 27 years in the pharmaceutical industry. A PhD chemist by training, Maurice Petitou has contributed significantly to the field of heparin research from which come many drugs. He is the inventor of several antithrombotic drugs marketed or in advanced clinical development. He is also the winner of the Galien Prize for Medical Research, the Whistler Prize on carbohydrates and the Leon Velluz Prize from the French Academy of Sciences.
