Qosmos receives a first round of financing from Sofinnova Partners

The French company offers an innovative solution to optimizing IP networks

Paris, 12 July 2004 – Sofinnova Partners has announced a first round of financing of 2 million euros for Qosmos, a French company specialized in auditing and optimizing IP networks. Picardie Avenir, a French regional investment fund, contributed 100, 000 euros to the round.

Created in 2000 with the assistance of scientists from LIP6, a research division of the  Université Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris, and of the CNRS (French National Center for Scientific Research), Qosmos has developed its own technology for capturing and analyzing network flows and storing them in a personalized data bank, which can be consulted immediately or at a later time. This diagnostic tool, based on the most advanced technology in recognition and application intelligence, makes it possible to carry on a complete analysis, on a real-time basis, of everything circulating on the network. Each application, and the quality of service delivered, can thus be thoroughly evaluated.

Qosmos’s products may also play an active role in fixing priorities among applications, for example ERP, voice/video over IP or thin client infrastructure. This allows companies better control over their telecommunications budget, while improving the security and the quality of service actually delivered to the end-user.

Qosmos sees what others do not. The company’s on-the-fly semantic analysis approach is radically different from other solutions on the market, which involve storing a great amount of data and using supervision tools to exploit them afterwards. Qosmos’s real-time auditing means that only the information gathered and computed for a particular search is stored. Qosmos’s products not only analyze the network lower layers but also the more complex languages at the upper application layer.

Traffic Analyzer 1, one of the company’s star products, performs an immediate audit on a precise point of search and instantly provides detailed information on the nature, the volume and the response time of the applications on the network. Thanks to this information, the network administrator can use Traffic Designer-1, another product by Qosmos, to intervene on the network and to control the priorities, reduce or even block certain application flows.

Qosmos’s products have already been adopted by Nortel, France Télécom, the Caisses d’Epargne banking group and Ipanema Technologies, among others.
